Meet John VC Weller

A Life Built on Bold Pivots

John and his family lived in New York, New Jersey, and South Carolina before making North Carolina their permanent home.

He credits all of his professional success and love of life to his parents, who taught him how to live fully and pursue every opportunity.

John’s mother, Vivien Weller, was a self-taught, highly acclaimed artist who worked with clients such as the PGA, NASCAR, the WTA, and the Michelob Polo Team. Though an incredible artist, Vivien was best known for her fearlessness, zest for life, and passion for leading people to Christianity. She taught John to see the beauty of life through the eyes of an artist, to put God first, and to believe that anything is possible.

John’s father, John Weller Sr., built an extraordinary career in the carpet industry, working his way up from a sample delivery driver to Vice President of Product Development at two of the largest carpet companies in the industry.

Both of John’s parents grew up in difficult circumstances in New York City yet went on to build remarkable, unlikely careers. They instilled in John an unwavering work ethic, toughness, and optimism.

John’s career began in Washington, D.C., in the premium wine industry, where he learned to sell and market high-end boutique wines in the nation’s top wine market. Quickly becoming one of the leading wine salesmen in the country, John was invited to help bring Snapple to the U.S. market. Though his time in the beverage industry lasted only two and a half years, it had a profound impact, giving him invaluable experience in launching a complex product in a highly competitive space.

Through a chance meeting at an NCAA basketball game with his father, John met David Holt, CEO of the WundaWeve carpet mill. Impressed by John, David invited him to Greenville, SC, to learn the carpet industry. Over a six-month period, John worked in every department—design, manufacturing, and marketing—before beginning his sales career in Sarasota, Florida.

His early achievements at WundaWeve included selling out an entire hotel’s residential carpet and winning the national contract for all Sports Authority stores in the U.S.

John’s career took a major leap when he was recruited into Mohawk Industries, one of the world’s largest flooring manufacturers. There, he held a unique role as a corporate entertainer, responsible for hosting clients at global events like the Olympics and the Super Bowl. Despite the prestige, John realized that success without fulfillment left him restless and searching for more meaningful work.

At 42, with no background in technology, John took a bold risk and launched FloorForce, a digital marketing company for the flooring industry. Many doubted his ability to succeed in tech, but John’s vision and relentless drive proved them wrong. FloorForce grew rapidly, earning recognition as a leader in the space. Ultimately, John sold the company—first to two former Google employees, and later to an international technology firm—cementing his reputation as a fearless entrepreneur and industry innovator.

John’s journey has always been defined by resilience and reinvention. He continues to share those lessons today as the host of Pivot Point with John Weller, a podcast that spotlights real stories of people who have made bold life and career pivots.

He also created Weller’s World, a companion series offering shorter takes and John’s unique perspective on business, life, and the world around him.

From selling boutique wines and launching Snapple, to transforming the flooring industry through technology, to building platforms that inspire others, John’s story is proof that anything is possible when you embrace change.
